A Custom Farmhouse Fit for Texas

Customer Stories, Custom Homes

Salina and Toby Towery worked with Tilson Homes to build their custom home in Milam County. They had a farmhouse look in mind and narrowed their plan down to the Harrisburg C. The goal when building farmhouse style homes is maintaining the old-style, rustic look our customers are searching for while including modern comfort and elegance. Nestled amongst the central Texas grass and trees, the Towerys white board-and-batten sided farmhouse more than delivers on that goal.

Customizing the Layout

Toby and Salina made several changes to the standard Harrisburg layout while finalizing their floorplan. First, they opted for the fourth bedroom option with a twist. They decided to use the standard Bedroom #3 as a dining room. This transition meant adding an opening to the wall between the kitchen and the bedroom and omitting the door to the hallway. In addition, they replaced the windows in their newly designed dining room with double French doors leading to their backyard. In order to open up the floor plan, they chose the alternate kitchen option, which moves the kitchen to the back of the home. Next, they expanded the island and removed some cabinets from the wall in order to install larger windows over their farmhouse sink. When describing the changes to the kitchen, Salina said, “It really opened up the kitchen and it’s a huge area!”

Choosing the Colors and Materials

In the family room, the Towerys added a corner fireplace with a stone face and cedar mantle. In addition, they added cedar beams to their stepped ceiling and the combination is stunning. For their floors, Salina and Toby chose a black stained concrete. The varying shades and rich colors provide an earthy feel to their farmhouse and are also easy to maintain with kids running around. In the kitchen, they went with luna pearl granite counters that provide amazing brightness with the extra sunlight coming through their large kitchen windows. The countertop matches nicely with the white tile backsplash and the combination is echoed beautifully in the kids’ bathroom as well as the upgraded master bath with soaking tub and walk-in shower.

The Wait is Over

Salina and Toby Towery moved into their new home last month and they couldn’t be happier. When describing the options they chose for their home, Salina said “It’s exactly what I’ve always dreamed of! Every night when I’m getting ready for bed, I tell my husband how much I love our house and that God truly blessed us!” That’s music to our ears. Salina, Toby, and their four children are living happily and comfortably in their new home. So, thank you to Toby and Salina Towery for sharing their experience with us and for trusting Tilson with their dream.
