Gillespie County
Ranches, wine, and national history are all things Gillespie County is known for. This region has a population of about 27,000, and within its borders is the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park, on which rests the LBJ Ranch. The county’s primary industry is beef cattle, but it is perhaps more famous for its wineries and vineyards, of which there are more than 40 – yes, forty – more than anywhere else in the state. Many are in Fredericksburg, its largest city, which also showcases several museums and a thriving arts community and district.
