Dallas County is, of course, best-known for the massive city of Dallas, with a population of 1.3 million (half of the county’s total). The city of Dallas contains one of the most active airports in the world, a huge fashion scene, a dizzying array of interesting and classy eateries, and one of the largest convention centers in the United States. Around the outskirts of the county, places like Wilmer and Sunnyvale provide a quieter experience with city life only a few minutes away. Lake Ray Hubbard is near the latter; other bodies of water include the Trinity River, Joe Pool Lake, and Mountain Creek Lake.
