Customizing the Lone Star Floor Plan

For over 90 years, we have perfected the craft of building new homes on your land in Texas. We know that a house is more than just a roof over your head. It is a place where memories are made, families grow, and legacies are built. That is why we focus heavily on making sure every home we build perfectly fits the family who will live there.

The Lone Star floor plan is quickly becoming one of our most popular designs, and it was recently crowned the winner of our Model Madness tournament! Given its popularity, we wanted to highlight just how adaptable this single-story layout is. The plan starts at 3,400 square feet and offers four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, but its true beauty lies in its incredible flexibility. To show you how customizable this floor plan is, we'll look at three different versions. We’ll explore our stunning model home and then see how two families tailored the Lone Star to fit their lifestyles. By the end of this post, you'll see exactly how you can make the Lone Star your own.

The Lone Star Model: A Showcase of Possibilities

When we built the Lone Star model home in Republic Grand Ranch, we wanted to showcase the vast potential of this floor plan. We chose Elevation C, which features a beautiful blend of stone, brick, cedar accents, and board and batten siding. This combination creates a striking exterior that fits perfectly on acreage properties. The model home features a massive front porch with two separate sitting areas. It immediately welcomes you inside. Once through the gorgeous double doors, the custom features truly begin to shine.

Sweeping Cathedral Ceilings and Open Spaces

One of the most breathtaking elements of the model home is the cathedral ceiling in the family room. This vaulted design extends all the way out to the back porch, making an already massive 23-by-25-foot room feel even larger. We added shiplap details and a grand stone fireplace to bring rustic warmth into the space.

The back patio itself is an entertainer's dream. Stretching almost 26 feet wide and over 18 feet deep, it offers multiple seating areas. The soaring ceiling matches the interior, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor living spaces.

A Kitchen Designed for Country Living

We know the kitchen is the heart and soul of your home. For the model, we selected the alternate kitchen layout with two separate islands. One island serves as a prep and cleanup station with a farmhouse sink, while the other acts as a serving buffet and seating area. To keep the gorgeous countertops clear, we designed a dedicated butler's pantry. This space houses appliances such as the built-in microwave and ice maker, while a separate walk-in pantry handles bulk grocery storage.

The Ultimate Master Suite Retreat

The master suite in our model home is a true sanctuary. We incorporated board and batten walls and a box beam ceiling to mirror the exterior's rustic charm. A sliding barn door opens into a luxurious master bathroom featuring arabesque glossy tile and a stunning walk-through shower. Perhaps the most talked-about feature is the master closet setup. We included separate his-and-hers walk-in closets with natural light. Even better, these closets connect directly to an expansive utility room, making laundry day incredibly convenient.

A Custom Lone Star C with Modern Comfort

While our model home leans into a grand, rustic aesthetic, one family took their Lone Star C in a beautifully modern and crisp direction. They used the plan's flexibility to create a home perfectly tailored to their tastes.

For their exterior, these homeowners selected Acme Oxford Place brick paired with Blanco Chop stone and white mortar, creating a look that’s both inviting and timeless. The siding is painted in Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray, beautifully accented by Keystone Gray trim and Urbane Bronze for the overhead garage doors. Thoughtful touches like Harbor Mist shutters and a mahogany front door in Velvet Smoke add warmth and elegance, reflecting their vision for a home that feels both fresh and rooted in tradition.

Inside, this clean, cohesive palette continues, with the choice of Sherwin-Williams Alpaca throughout the house for a soft and welcoming feel. To enhance the home's spaciousness, they added a stunning cathedral ceiling with four parallel Rough Sawn Wrapped Beams in the master bedroom.

The attention to detail is evident in every finish, from the upgraded matte black hardware to the harmony of textures in their flooring and cabinetry selections. Each choice was made to support a comfortable, functional environment for everyday living—showing how the Lone Star floor plan can be gently tailored to any family’s daily rhythms and design vision.

The Miller Family’s Lone Star B: Personalized Elegance

The Miller family made the Lone Star B truly their own by embracing classic elegance and thoughtful personal touches. For the exterior, they chose soft white Snowbound siding and richly stained accents in Hawthorne to provide a gentle contrast. The Miller family truly made the Lone Star their own with their unique structural changes.

This same care and attention to detail is evident in the structural modifications the Millers made to personalize their home. They chose to add a bonus room connected to their master suite, creating a private and convenient space for their home gym. In addition to the standard study, they also opted for a dedicated home office, providing ample space for work and productivity. To further enhance the home’s functionality for their family, they selected a four-bedroom layout and cleverly transformed what would have been the second bedroom into a spacious butler's pantry, adding significant storage and prep space just off the kitchen. These thoughtful structural changes ensured that the home’s layout was perfectly tailored to their lifestyle.

Each choice, from the exercise room to the butler's and extended pantry, was made to suit everyday routines while still honoring the couple’s unique style. The result is a home where tradition, comfort, and family pride are woven into every detail—a perfect example of how the Lone Star floor plan can become a true reflection of the people who call it home.
