A House Built on Faith: Inside the Flickner Family's Carefully Crafted Live Oak B
We had the pleasure of touring the Flickner family's custom Live Oak B home in Johnson County, meticulously designed with family, functionality, and faith at its core.
From the board-and-batten exterior and 8' Knotty Alder front door to the cozy interior, the Flickners' love for the Farmhouse design style is evident. The family was intent on including as much natural light as possible, which was on display with the wide windows in the abundantly lit family room.
Stepping into the kitchen—the heart of the Flickners' home—you first notice the expansive island with upgraded quartz countertops and a luxurious matte black backsplash. The kitchen also features double ovens and a microwave out of the way from her grandbabies' reach. Designed with her large family in mind, Brad and Julie Flickner wanted a space that was both functional and elegant.
The family room has abundant natural light, creating an inviting space where Julie envisioned a comfortable yet spacious gathering spot for her family. They added custom paneling after closing, which lends character to the space, framing a mantel crafted from live edge wood—a subtle nod to nature's beauty. In the dining area, Julie created a haven for shared meals and cherished moments, ensuring there's a place for everyone to gather and connect.
In the master suite, tall windows usher in natural light, enhancing the room's tranquil atmosphere. The master bathroom offers a sanctuary of relaxation and indulgence, with a sizeable dark-tiled shower with a bench and double-sink vanity. The family decided to forgo a door, allowing seamless integration with the bedroom and maximizing natural light.
The secondary bedrooms also feature personal touches and stories. The "adventure room," dedicated to the homeowner's cyclist husband, and a room with pink paneling they added for their granddaughter showcase how every corner of this home is intertwined with the lives and loves of its inhabitants.
Reflecting on her home, Julie shares her favorite aspect—the intentional design infused with personal meaning. From the meticulously chosen furnishings to the bible verses inscribed on the framing of the house, every element serves as a reflection of her values and beliefs.
