A Forever Home on Family Land: Melissa & Terrence's Custom Tilson Angelina!
For Melissa and Terrence, building a Tilson Angelina on 40 acres of family land in Medina County wasn't just a construction project—it was a continuation of a story that started with Melissa's parents two decades earlier.
"All of my relatives are still in their Forever Tilson home," Melissa shared. "So it's nice, in addition to knowing that I can trust them, because they're still here." Before Melissa's family's land was divided between siblings, her parents built the first Tilson Home on the property. Twenty years later, when she and Terrence decided to build their own home nearby, there wasn't much debate about who would build it. "My family all has it out here. We look like our own Tilson community," Melissa said.
That family legacy, paired with Tilson's deep customization options, set the stage for a home that reflects both where Melissa and Terrence came from and exactly how they want to live.

Inside, Melissa took the lead on design, and her vision was clear from the start: she wanted a home with brown hues that matched the nature surrounding their property. "I wanted something that had the brown hues to match the nature out here," Melissa explained.
Beyond color and material choices, Melissa and Terrence worked with Tilson's design team to tailor the floor plan itself. They added a cathedral ceiling and double rough-sawn beams to create a dramatic, open feel in the main living space. They also reconfigured the kitchen layout, reoriented the pantry for better flow, and added an exterior door to the utility room for everyday convenience. As Melissa put it, "What brought me to Tilson, rather kept me engaged, was just the level of customization that was out there," Terrance explained. Even his more specific construction requests were easy to incorporate. As he shared, "I really fell in love with the whole process at that point."
The Kitchen: Where Family Gathers
The kitchen carries the home's signature warmth with Groveland Flat Panel cabinets finished in Summer Wheat, topped with Valor Gold Quartz countertops. A Baroque Mosaic DA20 backsplash adds subtle texture and visual interest behind the stove, while the same Palisade luxury vinyl flooring from the main living areas continues underfoot, tying the kitchen seamlessly into the rest of the home. It's a space designed not just for cooking, but for the kind of everyday family gathering that defines life on the land.
The Master Bathroom: A Personal Retreat
Melissa and Terrence carried their warm material palette into the master bathroom, pairing Groveland Flat Panel cabinets in Summer Wheat with Valor Gold Quartz countertops for a cohesive look with the kitchen. Umber tile flooring grounds the space, while Buff shower wall tile and a Matte Urban Putty shower floor mosaic add depth and a spa-like feel. The result is a private retreat that still feels connected to the rest of the home's design story.
The Secondary Bathroom: Consistent, Considered Design
Even in the secondary bathroom, consistency mattered. Summer Wheat cabinets and Valor Gold Quartz countertops echo the finishes found elsewhere in the home, while Umber wall tile and Palisade luxury vinyl flooring complete a space that feels every bit as considered as the primary living areas. Nothing about this home feels like an afterthought, down to the rooms used least often.
Their Forever Home
For Melissa and Terrence, this house represents something larger than a floor plan or a finish palette. "It was also nice knowing that this is my one and only home," Melissa said. "We're on family property. It is not going away." Her father, her aunt—they all still live in their original Tilson homes. Now Melissa and Terrence have added their own chapter. "This is my family history right here," she said. "So the emotions were very high."
That emotional connection is woven into every decision they made, from the Adobe Wells brick on the exterior to the brown wood tones carried through every room. It's a home built not just for today, but for generations to come—much like the homes that came before it on that same family land.
