Peppered with small lakes in the southeast and bisected by the San Antonio River, Goliad County is a beautiful and humble place, hosting a population of less than 8,000. The only city in the county is the eponymous Goliad, which gathers folks for the produce, arts and crafts, and other items at the Goliad Market Day. The legendary dance hall, Schroeder Hall, also sits there, which draws crowds for some of the biggest modern country performances. The rest of the county is made up of small, quiet communities, including Fanning, where residents go to camp, fish, and boat at the Coleto Creek Reservoir.
