Recreating The Family Farmhouse With The Parker

Customer Stories, Custom Homes

A family came our Weatherford Design Center for help in building their home on their family land in Stephens County. Their vision was to recreate the original farmhouse that resided on the property. With help from our design consultant, Darla Skillman, they were able to take the base plan forthe Parker and modify it in a way that suited their wants and needs in a home. The front exterior of the home features a stone wainscoting and a HardiePanelTM board and batten finish, matching the style of the original farmhouse. This was perfect as the customers were looking for an old-style look on the outside while enjoying the modern advances in home building throughout the interior.

Customizing the Layout

Inside, Darla and the customers added an upstairs bonus room with its own half bath. The bonus room serves as a man-cave area as well as a theater room separate from the rest of the house. Downstairs, the family opted for an extended rear porch that adds 70 feet of exterior living space. The addition of double French doors in the master suite allows them access to the porch from their bedroom. They also added a fireplace in the family room that both provides a distinguishing feature to the home while matching the original farmhouse. In the utility room, the family added an exterior door to provide entry to the home through a drop-zone type, avoiding tracking in mud and debris from outside.

Adding Personal Touches

When selecting colors, the family chose a wood-like ceramic tile throughout the first floor. In the kitchen, they opted for one of ourincluded granite countertops and added two dark-tile accent bands in their subway tile backsplash. Upstairs in the bonus room, Darla helped them pick wall sconces to add lighting perfect for a theater. The bonus room includes a door to directly accesses the attic from the second floor. This entry is adjacent to the custom powder room. Other small details incorporated throughout the home include a sliding barn door on the entry to the master bathroom and a front entry door chosen specifically to match the one on the original farmhouse.

A Rustic, Modern Farmhouse

Whether we are building a home unlike any other or recreating a home that has stood for decades, our design consultants are prepared to assist you in all facets of the process. This family brought a very specific vision to Darla and she masterfully executed the design and appearance of this house. Modern technology and energy efficiency coupled with a rustic look make for a beautiful and practical home that will live on for decades, just like its predecessor.
